UNITY GAMES 2019 - DAY TRIP

Lead by Example Foundation was able to take nine kids from Meridian Public Charter School to the 17th Annual Unity Games, a basketball tournament held in Staten Island, NY. With the help of seven volunteers, we were able to travel to New York and engage with over 200+ other kids from the Tri-State Area. The kids participated in basketball games, workshops, game room time, training clinic, and a contest.

Due to the sponsorship of Unity Games, all meals and travel expenses were covered by Unity Games. Thank you to the founders of Unity Games, Sean Sherman and Mark Sherman, for the invitation, as well as Ward 7 F05 ANC Commissioner Brittany Hughes, for her recruitment from Meridian Public Charter School.

"The opportunity to participate in the Unity Games held in Staten Island NY, was an amazing experience to be apart of. To see people unite and give back to their community was an experience that each and everyone of us will share for the rest of our lives. Other communities would benefit if they developed something similar to the Unity Games. So many of our young women and men within different communities are turning to street violence and other bad decisions, the Unity Games provided an environment of peace and positivity. More importantly, the Unity Games provided these young people life skills that will help them for the rest of their lives."
